How soon can a pregnancy test be accurate?

Friday, October 2nd, 2009

How many days can I take a pregnancy test before the date I expect to start my period on?
Also, how much does a pregnancy cost in Canada?

A vaginal ultrasound could detect a pregnancy very soon after conception.. within days. However, a regular abd ultrasound takes much longer - maybe 6-8 weeks…

What do you mean slow? By the time you got on your computer came to this site and typed your question you should have had a result…

You may have a faulty test and need to take another.

How long dose it take a pregnancy test to read a positive result?

Saturday, September 26th, 2009

I wanted to know how long dose it takes for a pregnancy test to read a positive result after you have become pregnant?
Has anyone ever taken longer then normal to get a positive result?

Usually after 5 days after implantation you will have enough HcG to be detectable by a test.

What are the chances of me getting a positive pregnancy test?

Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009

Ok… I’ve been having a few symptoms that suggest I might be pregnant, me and my husband are TTC so that’s great! Anyways my AF isn’t due until Sun so I know it’s a little early to do a pregnancy test really but the suspense is killing me! What do you think the chances are of a pregnancy test showing up positive (if I am pregnant) if I took one now, 4 days before my period is due? Or do you think it is more likely to show negative until a few days?

Well First Response is supposed to tell you 5 days before your missed period, so you could try that! :) I think the closer to your missed period you wait, the better, but I know the suspense is killing you! Good luck!!

How early can a pregnancy be detected with a blood test?

Sunday, September 20th, 2009

My doctor wants to put me on a certain medication that has an unknown effect on a fetus. Since there is a good chance that I could be pregnant this month, she did a blood pregnancy test first to rule out a pregnancy- the results will be available tomorrow morning.

My period isn’t due until July 30th, which is an entire week away. Would a positive result show up this soon even in a blood test? How early was a positive blood test detectable for you?
I ovulated a week ago.

Once fertilization has occurred and implantation has been achieved, the hormone hCG is released into the blood. The time limit for this can vary due to sensitivity of the test and the amount of this particular hormone that’s released. If memory serves me correctly, (been a while since I worked in OBGYN or L&D) the blood test could be accurate within 5 to 7 days after conception.

I’m sure your physician is testing for the levels of hCG in your blood as a means to r/o pregnancy. The blood test is used to detect the qualitive as well as the quantitive levels; this is an indicator to determine a pregnancy.
