How are the pregnancy weeks counted for a women with a longer cycle?

Monday, October 5th, 2009

I know they count the weeks of pregnancy by the date of the last period. So if the last period was on Dec. 1st for example, Jan 1st would be sometime around week 4.

But what about those with longer cycles? With cycles that are 50 days long for example. So if two women have their period on Dec. 1st, one with a regular cycle and the other with a longer cycle, I believe that they didn’t conceive on the same day.

Am I right? Please explain.

It is counted exactly the same, however it’s more likely that the estimated due date might be off by a week or so if you have an irregular cycle. Your doctor will have a better idea after your ultrasounds.

What week of pregnancy is there a difference between male and female genitalia?

Friday, October 2nd, 2009

I know early in pregnancy they look the same. At what week do they take on different looking external genitalia?

The external genitalia usually differentiates at week 12-13, but you can’t get close enough to get a good look with an ultrasound. Usually around 16 weeks it’s possible to see it with an ultrasound. It’s most accurate at about 20 weeks though. Good Luck!

How long does a pregnancy test show positive after giving birth?

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

If I gave birth to my daughter on August 24th and I take a pregnancy test today or tomorrow morning would it still show positive? Typically how long does it take to get all the pregnancy hormones out of your system? Im not breast feeding and havent been bleeding since my second week post partum. Thanks in advance for your answers.

i’m pretty sure it won’t. cause i had my baby on may 13th, i thought i was pregnant within those 6 weeks after birth and it showed i wasn’t. i was told by a few people and doctors also that it takes around 2 weeks for the hormones to fully get out of your system.

What pregnancy tests detect better than others?

Saturday, September 26th, 2009

What are some pregnancy tests that are very sensitive and get an accurate result early. My period is due the 30th of this month. I was wondering how early I can take a test and it come out positive and which ones will pick up very early. Thanks!

You can TRY 4-5 days before with Dollar store tests, Answer Early Detection, First Response Early Detection, Walmart’s Equate Early tests, and Walgreens early detection tests. They ALL detect 25 mlu of the pregnancy hormone. They ALL work well. I used the Dollar Store tests myself.
